The History
This Club was formed by Roy W. Cooke the Treasurer of Ryecroft Lodge 4974 and Robert (Bob) Maycock the Steward of Dore Masonic Hall Co.Ltd, in the year of 2006. We are therefore both respectively the Chairman / Secretary and assistants of both positions. The conception was originally to form a fishing club from the Lodges at Dore Masonic Hall but we altered it to a Social & Angling club to encompass future differing activities such as Golfing, Dancing ( sequence etc; ) and possibly a monthly Social get together involving the latter and any other agreed activities, the club title is now DORE MASONIC SOCIAL CLUB.
Although the Club title is Masonic, membership including the fairer sex is open to the families and friends of all non and practicing Freemasons who have or wish to participate in the past and future functions that have and will take place. There is no membership fee, supporting a function and signing a register to pledge future support at your own convenience is the only criteria.
Our Fishing Events
Our first fishing open Sweepstake was held on Sunday the 29th of April 2007 at the Norwood Cottage Fisheries, near Rother Valley Country Park. Seventeen fished and the first three prize winners weights were, Russ Barker with 28.8lbs, Ashley Westel 21.9lbs and our very first fisherwoman Mrs Anne Alsop with 15.9lb well done Anne we hope you and your husband will join us again, this is also an invitation to any woman who would like to join us wether married or single. Our second Sweepstake was on Sunday the 15th July 2007 at Pinch Mill Lakes. We also had our first annual fishing weekend away staying Saturday night at the Timbers Hotel, Fincham Nth Norfolk near Downham Market. We fished two Match sweepstakes at Dents Farm Fisheries off the A10 where the total weight caught by twelve anglers was over 500lb. This year will mark our sixth year at the same venues the Hotel and the fisheries are absolutely brilliant. Anyone interested in joining us this year 2012 on Friday and Saturday the 7th, 8th & 9th of September phone me Roy Cooke Chairman on 07877780939.
Past Functions
Our first Social gathering was on Saturday evening the 21st of April 2007, it was a Family fun night out. We held a free sponsored family picture quiz with a prize voucher for £10, raffle tickets were sold, then a True or False quiz and at 9pm we had a Pie and Pea supper. We then had two stand up Bingo's to excercise the legs and a walk about for the lucky raffle prize winners, throughout the evening background music was intermitantly played by the friendly DJ to listen or dance to. The spare money we raised on the night went towards a local girls football team for the purchase of their kits. On Saturday the 23rd of October 2010 we held a Social Cub function at which the attendance was arround 45 thanks mainly to Bobs family and a few of my friends, it was dissapointing that out of the registered members of the DMH Social club only a handful attended and I mean one handful, maybe the numbers will increase at this years 2012 function/s if and when they take place.
It would be nice if the masonic Golfers chipped in and promoted their interests on the Site or are they just really a secret society of unsocial men, i think not so why don't you come and have Tee with us.
